Beginners Guide to using Arcade in ArcGIS Online
8 GISP Credit Hours
This course is designed for existing ArcGIS Online users who are looking to expand their skill set with ArcGIS Arcade. It is ideal for GIS professionals, analysts, and developers who already have a foundational knowledge of making maps in ArcGIS Online and are looking to take their capabilities to the next level.
This class is geared toward intermediate-level users, focusing on using Arcade to develop dynamic labeling, symbology, and pop-ups. If you’re comfortable with the core functions ArcGIS Online and are ready to integrate scripting to customize and optimize your workflows, this course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to use Arcade effectively within your projects.
Students need to have their own computer hardware and an ArcGIS Online Creator user-type or higher, and a role of Publisher or higher assigned to their Creator user-type. Students will need to log into their organization’s AGOL account, so they need to have their AGOL URL and valid login available at the start of class.
- Module 1: Introduction to ArcGIS Arcade*
- Module 2: The Arcade Language*
- Module 3: Categories of Functions in Arcade*
- Module 4: Symbology with Arcade
- Module 5: Labeling with Arcade
- Module 6: Pop-ups and Interactive Content
- Module 7: Data Calculations and Field Updates
* Please note, the first 3 modules of this course are that same modules from the Beginners Guide to Customizing ArcGIS Pro with Arcade course, while modules 4 through 7 focus on applying lessons learned in the ArcGIS Online environment instead of ArcGIS Pro.
This course introduces you to the powerful capabilities of ArcGIS Arcade in the ArcGIS Online environment. You will learn how to write Arcade expressions to enhance your web maps, enabling the creation of custom symbology, dynamic labels, and informative pop-ups without altering your underlying data. Through a series of hands-on exercises, you’ll explore how to apply Arcade expressions to various map elements, creating more interactive and data-driven maps.

This course made it less intimidating to switch from ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro. So glad I attended.

I have attended a number of instructor-led training courses offered by ESRI, which are great in their own right, but the Mastering the ArcGIS Server JavaScript API course gets much more in-depth than they often do. I really liked the recommended reading, they helped expand the terms being covered in lecture to concrete examples that could be related back to my work more directly instead of just having the lecture and exercises alone. I learned a lot andwill recommend this and other GeoSpatial Training courses to the GIS'ers I know. Thanks for putting this course together and offering it.
