ArcGIS 10.5 Is Coming Soon!

by | Dec 12, 2016

Earlier this year Esri announced ArcGIS 10.5 was coming some time in December. Well your wait is almost over. We expect Esri will release this newest version of ArcGIS sometime within the next two weeks.
So what can we expect in this new release?
That is a good question. ArcGIS 10.5 will be a big leap forward for ArcGIS as an enterprise solution. This new version includes many improvements in enterprise functionality and integration within ArcGIS.
As part of this focus on providing an even more fully integrated enterprise solution, ArcGIS Server is being renamed ArcGIS Enterprise. ArcGIS Enterprise will include all the components found in ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE and Portal for ArcGIS. These will now be bundled together under the new name ArcGIS Enterprise. This will allow you to implement a complete enterprise web GIS solution behind your own firewall or in the cloud. To make implementing this even easier, a new installation wizard has been included. This new installation wizard, will allow you to more easily configure the various components and to script multiple installations.
Esri will be releasing at least three new tools to support the use and analysis of Big Data with ArcGIS 10.5. These will include: GeoAnalytics Server, Image Analytics Server and ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server. These three new products are designed to enhance each other for increased analysis capability. They will be accessible from ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise. We have also heard ArcGIS 10.5 may also support Python under Anaconda. If this is true it will make maintaining libraries and environments a bit easier than is currently possible.
Expect an new version of ArcGIS Pro to be coming as well. We are not sure if it will be released at the same time as ArcGIS 10.5 or later. However when released, the new version of ArcGIS Pro should have almost all the functionality currently found in ArcMap and ArcCatalog. This will make ArcGIS Pro the most versatile and powerful desktop GIS application in the industry. The new version of ArcGIS Pro will also be fully integrated with ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online. With many tools you will not find in ArcMap or ArcCatalog. If you have not begun looking at and using ArcGIS Pro, when this new version drops it might be time to do so.
That is all we know about ArcGIS 10.5 for now. As we get more information eGIS Associates will make sure we continue to share it.
